About the Awards
The Student Choice Awards for Holistic Advising are an annual opportunity to recognize postsecondary institutions that have undergone holistic advising redesign efforts supported by cross-functional teams and centered on student experiences to improve completion and success outcomes for all students, including Black, Latino/a/x, Indigenous, Asian, and Pacific Islander students and poverty-affected students.
These awards highlight and elevate institutions that center student voice and perspective in holistic advising redesign and are advancing meaningful, student-centered transformation.
Award recipients are selected by a panel of student reviewers. Award amounts range from $1,000–$10,000.
Why Holistic Advising Matters
Advising and student support services are essential to students’ progress in college and are often one of the only regular, structured touchpoints institutions have with their students. When done well, advising can be a significant determinant of student success and create a space where students’ voices and experiences are heard.
Holistic advising—looking at students as whole individuals and aligning student supports to provide students with advising experiences that are sustained, strategic, integrated, proactive, and personalized (CCRC 2019)—has become a central element of effective student support, helping institutions better understand student needs and refine practices that improve outcomes.
